ABOUT
Waldorf Education
Waldorf education begins with a deep respect for childhood and a belief that learning should engage the whole human being. Through rich stories, purposeful movement, and hands-on artistry, Waldorf learning embodies a collaborative, living process. Students grow through experiences designed to cultivate curiosity, confidence, and independent thought in ways unlike any modern, test-driven pedagogy.
Across the globe, Waldorf students are renowned for their emotional intelligence, creativity, and steady problem-solving skills in an ever-changing world.
A journey of being and becoming.
At a time in human history when the organic experience of childhood has never been more rushed, abbreviated, and screen-mediated, Waldorf education provides a bridge to vital developmental processes high on modern education’s endangered list. Our diverse community thrives on the shared belief that such an education is not only a luxury, but a necessity.
Step into a community where learning is human, relationships are humane, and childhood, above all, is treasured.
Story, Art, and Imagination
Lessons come alive through storytelling, painting, drawing, drama, and creative expression, nurturing deep understanding and imaginative thinking.
Nature, Rhythm, and Real Experiences
Nature, predictable rhythms, and hands-on activities strengthen the senses, build resilience, and form the foundation for healthy learning.
Music, Movement, and Human Connection
Music and movement nurture emotional intelligence, support healthy development, and deepen the warm human connections children need to thrive.

AGES 1-5
Early Childhood
Foundational Skills, Imagination, Meaningful Activity
In Waldorf School of Bend’s Early Childhood (EC) programs, our teachers prioritize play-based learning, brain-healthy movement, and purposeful activity over early academic pressure. In our screen-free classrooms, children learn through imaginative play, rich oral language, and hands-on tasks like baking, crafting, and gardening.
Within a gentle daily rhythm, children gain focus, confidence, and social skills — forming a joyful, developmentally grounded foundation for lifelong learning.
GRADES 1-5
Lower Grades
Holistic, Developmentally Conscious Learning
In the Waldorf lower grades, experienced teachers harmonize academic progress with a child’s natural development. Rather than pushing forward or holding back based on external standards, Waldorf teachers attune to key developmental rhythms shaping their students’ readiness to learn and grow.
This deeply intentional approach supports ongoing trust between student and teacher, while amplifying educational confidence, curiosity, and momentum. Every story, subject, movement, and moment in a lower grades classroom invite the whole student to engage and blossom.
GRADES 6-8
Junior High
Critical Thinking, Emerging Independence, Leadership
In the Upper Grades, Waldorf principles meet students at a new stage of awakening: adolescence. Still held by the foundational methods of story, movement, and artistry, teachers guide this delicate transition with rigorous, developmentally aligned work — from concrete science blocks and expressive humanities to hands-on mathematics and the arts.
Robust, world-building subject matter engages both their intellect and creativity: Roman history. Physics. Business math. Geology. World geography. This rich and challenging curriculum is designed to bridge the maturing student’s creative foundation with real-world demand.
